Industry Veteran Bob Takai Joins EEX In Tokyo

EEX has recruited industry veteran and commodities trading specialist Bob Takai to the exchange’s Japan Power Team. Based in Tokyo and reporting directly to EEX’s Chief Operating Officer, Steffen Koehler, Mr Takai will oversee EEX’s activities in Japan to solidify the exchange’s position in the Japanese energy market.

Internationally recognized as a leading expert and key contributor to the creation and development of commodity trading in Japan, Mr Takai has enjoyed an impressive career in derivatives and energy trading spanning over four decades. Prior to his latest appointment, he held a variety of senior executive positions at Sumitomo Corporation both in Japan and North America.

Speaking on the appointment, Bob Takai comments; “Having worked for more than 40 years in the Japanese Derivatives space, I understand what it takes to build truly successful markets. EEX has a proven track record in building successful businesses around the world over the past 20 years and I’m excited to join forces with such a committed team to further develop the Japanese Power Derivatives market”.

Since launching on the 18th May, trading activity on EEX’s Japan Power Derivatives products has increased steadily with the number of market participants, both domestically in Japan and internationally, growing also. In June, EEX Japan Power Derivatives recorded a total volume of 104,520 MWh in its first full month of trading and in doing so, exceeded the volume achieved on the domestic power futures exchange in Japan.
