The Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) announced a one-year extension of the term of office for John Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, as Chair of the Consultative Council for the Americas (CCA).

As Chair, Mr Williams will work with all CCA members and the BIS Representative Office for the Americas to consolidate several important cooperative initiatives initiated under his tenure in areas such as digital payments and risk management.

Mr Williams' current term started on 9 January 2020, when Mr Williams replaced Julio Velarde, Governor of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru. His term will conclude in January 2023.

The BIS Representative Office for the Americas, located in Mexico City, serves as the Secretariat for the CCA.
