City Against Motor Neurone Disease Network Supporter To Walk 300 mile Jarrow March To Raise Awareness Of MND

City against MND Network supporter, Thom Lant, will be walking the historic Jarrow March to raise awareness of MND and much-needed funds for the MND Association starting in Jarrow, North East England on Monday 6th March 2017.

The 300 mile walk follows the route of the original 1936 March, travelling through many of England’s major cities and towns including Darlington, Harrogate, Leeds, Barnsley, Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton, Bedford, Luton, St Albans and finishing in London.
The walk is planned to take 15 days (the original March took 27) finishing on Monday 20th March.

“I want to do something to support the great work my friend Dave Setters, who has MND, is doing through his City Against MND Network”, says Thom. “Dave works tirelessly to raise thousands for various charities and is an inspiration in so many ways.

“My grandfather, who served in Burma during World War 2, also had MND and I never got to meet him. The nature of the disease meant he lost his voice and died in silence in 1970, unable to say goodbye to his loved ones.”

Many people in the City are generously giving their time and money to support research into MND and to help care for those living with it, yet there is so much more that can and needs to be done.

Eminent researchers report that advances are being made in finding the genes that may be factors in causing MND along with potential associated therapies. So there is HOPE – but as many people say “MND is not incurable, it’s just underfunded”.

Thom will complete the walk at around 5pm on Monday 20th March at the Lamb Tavern in Leadenhall Market, City of London. Please come along if you would like to join us for a celebration drink!
